More than 70% of eligible voters didn't even bother
to vote in Calgary's by-election November 26; and, only 11% of eligible voters voted for the winning party!

Tom I am a veteran and have worked in Alberta most of my working years. To be honest, I never felt my vote counted for anything. The political parties had agendas, and no matter what they said, or how the vote went, they will do whatever they want once they win "power." There is no way to influence the politicians until the next election. Even then we only have two choices: vote them back in, or vote them out. They are not really listening to voters. They are only selling at election time. This is not my idea of participatory democracy, and it certainly isn't the kind of government I thought I was protecting overseas.
"Missionaries" is the word a very cognizant and informed Senior at the Lethbridge Seniors constitution workshop used to describe MLAs. They carry the party message to the voters, rather than advocating voters wishes in the Legislature.
