There are oil sands all over the world, but we developed the expertise to extract the oil and get it where it is needed. And we'll use that same expertise to develop technology to minimize the environmental impact!

146 years ago…...a small group of men wrote the law for our country. 146 years ago - laws for an era long gone by, laws for a world that no longer exists!Today, we try to live by those laws. The result is constant confusion, if not confrontation, between the provincial and federal governments.For example, there is the Canada Health Act, but it is the provincial government that has responsibility for health care. The Alberta Government has authority over oil sands development, but it is the Canadian Government that has responsibility for the environmental calamity at the oil sands.It's time to modernize government by electing independent, free-thinking Albertans to the Canadian Senate. It's hard not to make this comparison when considering "Indian reservations". The Indian Act ties Indians to land, without the benefit others in our Canadian society enjoy from private ownership. It's time to stop treating Indians like children. Eliminate the Indian Act, and give Indians responsibility for their own success or failure.

...current Seniors or future Seniors. Either way, Prime Minister Harper's change to pension ages will affect you. I think mandatory retirement age should be changed to discretionary retirement age, at the option of the individual.

The big issue right now is the long term care of our mature adults who need more care than can be given at home but are not acute enoough for hospitalization.

Alberta Health Services is running out of long term beds so those needing long term placement may be kept in our transition beds in hospital just waiting for placement. This puts a lot of stress on the patients not knowing where they will end up, stress on the families being pressured by the hospital system to take them out & take them home (few families know how to take care of their elderly parents.

Then, of course there is the Government or hospital side of things saying we are running out of beds for people that need acute care but no beds because the frail, elderly are occupying them.... and then, there is the cost associated with keeping people in hospitals. Our elderly can be laying in their beds for months on end just waiting for their permanent placement

Sun's silly sexism

Surely, the Calgary Sun isn't this stupid. The caption under a photo in its January 25 issue of Premier Redford wearing a hardhat while inspecting a construction site was "Good thing the hard hat's [sic] white ... otherwise it would have clashed with the pearls." Comparatively speaking, the editor of the Sun's jockey shorts were too tight that day.

This flippant comment by Alberta's Premier did little to build the confidence of Canada's international beef buyers in Alberta beef during the BSE crisis in 2003. Now, after more than 8 years, the previously fourth largest buyer of Canadian beef, South Korea, is finally opening its border again for Alberta beef.

A Political Zombie House ─ The Canadian Senate!

If you have seen the movie "Shaun of the Dead", you would have no trouble describing the Canadian Senate as a Political Zombie House! Those in it serve little democratic purpose, yet they suck out almost $100 million taxpayer dollars a year.

The Zombie House has a protective force field

The Senate has a constitutional "force field" protecting it. It can't be abolished; it can't be changed. Only the Zombies inside can make something of it.

But they won't, because they are obligated to the political leaders who appointed them.

Fight the Zombies

We must fight the Zombies. We must elect Senators who are accountable to those who elect them ─ you!

The only way to fight the Zombie House is to put an independent, free thinking Senator inside it. A Senator that works for you, and not for a political party, as do those who currently occupy the Senate.

I believe that electing independent, free-thinking Senators for Albertans would be the beginning of the end for the Political Zombie House.

Rid the land of Senate Zombies!

Zombies can be beaten. Woody Harrelson showed that in the movie "Zombieland".

It’s time to slay the Zombies. Use your vote to put an independent, free thinking Albertan inside the Senate to fight the Zombies. Elect a Senator who is accountable to you, not the political parties that appointed them!
